Understanding Georgia Standards of Excellence
Georgia Standards of Excellence
Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) – 5th Grade
The Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) outline the knowledge and skills students are expected to master by the end of fifth grade. These standards provide a clear roadmap for teaching and learning, ensuring students build a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Throughout the school year, fifth-grade students will engage in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and effective communication. The GSE helps prepare students for middle school by promoting academic growth, real-world application of knowledge, and lifelong learning.
The Georgia Department of Education publishes the official Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) by subject area.
